If you like to draw in other programs or on paper, Anime Studio 8′s new trace imaging system may allow you to animate these outside images in an easier fashion.
[..YouTube..] I just did an animation where I created the images in Photo Shop, then imported them into Toon Boom. The images I created were as you suggested, with all the parts separate so they could act more like a traditional animated cartoon once assembled on different layers.
[..YouTube..] It can be done in Flash, but both that and Anime Studio give you either a billion vectors or a very bad tracing, especially if its a photo. You’re better off tracing stuff manually on a new layer.
[..YouTube..] You can’t do it automatically in flash, but it should be pretty easy to import a bitmap image, and then trace it to another layer manually.
